Google AdSense is a way to monetize your blog, but it’s Far Far Far from Lucrative. While newbies and bloggers who can’t market consider it effective, many smart online marketers for various and intelligent reasons decide to look into the great beyond, outside the wussy commissions of Google AdSense and use other options; Ones that pay the bills. There are infinite ways to earn ad money without google AdSense.
Ad Networks
Ad networks work in a similar way to AdSense. They use your blog content to spam/post relevant/spam ads that your readers would find interesting or spammy. As you can tell I don’t like them.. Talkahead.com is one network that does this. It puts real targeted ads (RTA) or (spammy garbage you dont really know) into related stories on your blog. These are small text-based ads that you can customize. The small advantage is that they’re hidden inside the content where they don’t stand out and scream ‘ads’ like Google’s do.
However, I think its cheesy.
Other sites, like LinkBucks, give you more choices on what ads your blog will show. You get to choose the sites you’d would like to link to. LinkBucks gives you options of either getting paid when someone clicks the link or earning referral income when you send someone to the website.
Chitika is a popular network with bloggers. Its unique because it only shows ads to visitors who found your site through the search engines. People that access your blog through a link or by entering the URL directly won’t see the ads. The benefit isthat your regular readers won’t be bothered with them.
But honestly if your afraid to make money or if your readers don’t want your products what are you doing? Don’t be a chicken and tell your readers what you got.
There countless alternative ad networks and they have their unique qualities. Adbrite is an ad network that includes non-English ads. BuySellAds provides a marketplace where you can negotiate with advertisers. Some networks, such as Infolinks, allows you to run their ads alongside ads from other ad networks.
Working Directly with Advertisers
A better option is to skip the crappy, spammy, wussy, low income ad networks completely and sell your own ad space directly to advertisers. The advantage of ad networks is that they make finding advertisers easy. all you have to do is sign up. So every newbie and there mama are on these things making little to no money and giving online marketing a bad name. Finding your own advertisers takes some work, but you have total control over the entire process and with the extra little bit of work comes way more money.
In order to attract advertisers, create a media kit that describes your blog, its readership, analytic data. Show your level of traffic, and a basic outline of benefits to advertising on your blog. Include a “media” or “advertisers” link in the footer. Link directly to this kit. Set your own pricing and negotiate with advertisers that show interest directly.
The catch; In order to get advertisers to work with you directly, you need a good amount of traffic and it helps if there’s a high level of engagement with readers. Placing an ad on your blog has to be a good value for them.
The Absolute Best Monetization Options
Ads aren’t the only way to monetize your blog. You can write about products for affiliate programs and sell your own information products as well. These approaches may be more profitable than selling ad space.
